Pakistan not a failed state: minister

Pakistani State Minister for Information Sumsam Bukhari Tuesday rejected a report published in a foreign journal that described Pakistan as a failed state.

He termed the report as a part of propaganda against Pakistan.

"I totally disagree with this report and categorically say that Pakistan is not a failed state," he said on a local TV channel.

The state-run APP news agency quoted Bukhari as saying that Pakistan was facing serious challenges and it suffered a lot due to the ongoing drive against terrorism but it did not mean "We area failed state".

The government was absolute in its resolve to expunge extremism and terrorism from the society, he said, adding that people were also with the government in this drive against terrorism.

Bukhari said that no doubt the government was confronting somber issues like the internally displaced persons (IDPs) return and economic meltdown.

However, he said, "We are unfeigned in our efforts to find solution of these problems."

It was a challenging situation but fortunately Pakistan was not hit economically so badly like the west, Bukhari added.
